Susan Allen Brings Together Powhatan Neighbors, Community Leaders to Discuss 2012 Election

Powhatan, VA – Susan Allen continued her statewide campaign for George Allen today in Powhatan, Virginia, talking with local residents, meeting local business leaders and bringing neighbors together to discuss the important choices voters will make this election.

Susan Allen’s visits in the Powhatan community began with a Dutch Treat Lunch at Erin’s Village Eatery, a locally-owned restaurant set in Powhatan’s historic Courthouse Village. At Erin’s, Susan Allen talked with patrons about how Washington’s policies affect their families, schools and community businesses. Following the Dutch Treat Lunch, Susan Allen stopped by businesses in Powhatan’s The Village. She heard from people who pay taxes, run businesses and create jobs about what their goals and concerns are for the future.

“Every business is a building block in our community, and it’s so important to understand what makes or breaks their success in these challenging economic times,” said Susan Allen. “In Powhatan and across the Commonwealth, I hear how Washington’s actions are making tax bills higher, energy less affordable, and basic business transactions complicated with new rules and regulations. George understands firsthand that the key to our community businesses succeeding isn’t more government, it’s more freedom. That’s why George wants to bring his positive, proven job-creating solutions to the U.S. Senate to make Virginia an even better place to live, learn, work and raise a family.”

“As a small business owner, I see how much red tape and regulations Washington is forcing into our lives and work,” said Denise Verlander, owner of A&K Appraisal. “It’s great to have Susan Allen in town to outline the clear choice for freedom we have this election. I’m so glad to know George Allen is committed to bringing our voices and values back to the U.S. Senate — to limit the taxing, spending and regulations that have created so much uncertainty for businesses.”

Susan Allen concluded her visits in Powhatan with a “Politics on the Porch” event at the home of Lisa McNerney, bringing neighbors and friends together to talk about why their vote matters this election.

“Making a difference in this election starts right on our own home streets, and I want my friends and neighbors to know why I’m supporting George Allen to be our next Senator,” said Lisa McNerney. “It can be so discouraging to see all the spending, taxes and regulations coming out of Washington these days, but we can have a say in the matter by voting for George Allen. His record of working with both parties to reduce government in our lives is exactly what we need.”

George Allen’s economic plan, the Blueprint for America’s Comeback, outlines specific solutions for reducing tax burdens, creating jobs, reining in government and unleashing America’s energy resources. Click here to read more.

May 16, 2012

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
Obama, Kaine Stand with Union Backers
From the Washington Examiner

By Barbara Comstock

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

When Barack Obama kicked off his presidential campaign this month, he chose Richmond as the place to do it, and former DNC chairman, former Virginia governor and Senate candidate Tim Kaine as the man to introduce him. Five days earlier, Kaine was also present with Obama for the president’s speech to the Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO union. Kaine stood by as Obama assailed right-to-work laws, like Virginia’s.

Obama bragged about his promotion of union project labor agreements which limit open competition for contracts and jobs, and drive up costs of infrastructure projects. The president promised to keep fighting for special favors for organized labor — “[As] long as I’m your president. I’m going to keep it up … ” — and even pointed out that Kaine, his friend, was also “a friend of labor.”

Since that speech on April 30, Kaine has failed to comment on the president’s incendiary remarks, or to affirm his support for our right-to-work law.

. . . .

So one question: Does Kaine want the president to “keep it up” with these destructive policies?

Does Kaine want the president to keep pushing project labor agreements on infrastructure projects, which will limit Virginia’s ability to stretch our transportation dollars and put Virginia construction firms at a disadvantage in bidding? Does he want the president’s hand-picked National Labor Relations Board appointees to keep punishing companies that create non-union jobs, the way Boeing did when it located a plant in the right-to-work state of South Carolina? Does he approve of their push for “ambush elections,” which would help unions force their way into workplaces in as few as 10 days, even in right-to-work states.

Will Kaine stay silent while the president “keeps it up?”

. . . .

Obama’s attacks on our right-to-work laws and his opposition to free and open competition in contracts are at odds with the Virginia way. The Commonwealth provides a choice, not a mandate, when it comes to unions. But unfortunately, the “Chicago way” and the agenda of Barack Obama and Tim Kaine’s union allies are a different story.

Tim Kaine sends many signals that there is no distance between himself and Barack Obama. His silence as the president savaged our right-to-work laws — a key to the Commonwealth’s status as the number one state for jobs — is troubling for all who care about keeping Virginia open for business.

Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock, R-McLean, is the patron of HB 33, the Fair and Open Competition in Government Act.

Today I was able to stop and meet Vicki Trice, owner of The Ruby Slipper in Hanover, as I campaigned for George in Hanover County. Vicki is like many small business owners we’ve met along the trail the past year. She has two employees and is open seven days a week, providing a cheerful stop for those in search of a special gift and casual clothing. But economic uncertainty has Vicki just hanging on day-by-day — waiting for an economy where reasonable gas and food prices enable families to have more disposable income. Not only that, but an economy where everyone who wants a job is able to find work. Once common-sense policies are put into place, Vicki is eager to grow her business and hire more.

Later today at the Hanover Tavern, I met with a great crowd of members and special guests of the Hanover Republican Women’s Club. Hanover was a part of George’s congressional district when he was in Congress. Many there remember when he first introduced his Balanced Budget Amendment legislation. Now more than ever we need George to bring his pro-job growth agenda to Washington, and I’m so happy to have many longtime members of the A-Team back with us on the trail.

I look forward to another full day in Powhatan tomorrow, meeting with more small business owners and local residents. I’ll also be stopping by the Fairfax Victory Center to thank the many volunteers already working so hard for George in the lead up to the June 12th Primary.

Hanover, VA – Susan Allen campaigned in Hanover County today, meeting with families and small business leaders about George Allen’s positive solutions for growing our economy through a freedom and opportunity agenda. At The Ruby Slipper store in Mechanicsville, Susan Allen met with local residents and job creators to listen to how Washington’s decisions affect their businesses and their families. Susan Allen also outlined George Allen’s Blueprint for America’s Comeback – a detailed pro-job growth plan focused on lowering tax burdens, reining in federal spending and regulations, and unleashing America’s energy resources.

“Everywhere George and I travel in Virginia, we see small business owners sharing their inspiring American Dream with their community,” said Susan Allen. “The Ruby Slipper is a picture-perfect example of how beautiful the American Dream is and how important it is to rein in an over-spending, over-regulating government that threatens the survival of many small businesses. George’s positive plan for an economy fueled by freedom and opportunity is exactly what our Commonwealth and nation needs to get back on track. This election is too important for any of us to sit on the sidelines, and I’m so thankful for the outpouring of support Virginians are giving to George’s campaign.”

“Susan Allen gives us such a clear picture of what this election means for our families, businesses and community,” said Vicki Trice, owner of The Ruby Slipper. “I love owning my own boutique, but the taxes and regulations coming out of Washington these days create so much uncertainty. I’m so glad to know George Allen has a record of working with people from both parties to produce positive results that give us less government and more freedom to build our own dreams.”

Following the Small Business Meet and Greet in Mechanicsville, Susan Allen is headlining the Hanover Republican Women’s Club meeting at the Hanover Tavern in Hanover. These events build on Susan Allen’s statewide travels campaigning for George Allen and discussing the policy issues that will frame the 2012 election.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
May 11, 2012

George Allen Sets Clear Contrast Against Tim Kaine on Jobs

Virginia Beach, VA – Today, George Allen participated in a Republican primary debate in Virginia Beach, organized by the Republican Party of Virginia. The second of three scheduled debates, this debate focused on economic and regulatory policies affecting small businesses.

Allen used the debate to draw a clear contrast between his record of supporting pro- job growth policies that helped create 300,000 net new Virginia jobs against Tim Kaine’s record of losing 100,000 Virginia jobs. Following the debate, former Congresswoman Thelma Drake (R-VA) and Delegate John Cosgrove (R-Chesapeake) issued the following statements:

“This Senate race is about whether our children and grandchildren will have the same opportunities to reach the American Dream that we had,” said former Congresswoman Thelma Drake. “But for too many small business owners, their American Dream is slipping away under the Kaine/Obama tax and regulate agenda. Serving as a Delegate while George Allen was Governor, I saw firsthand how he worked with legislators from both parties to empower Virginia small businesses by eliminating and reforming 70 percent of Virginia regulations and cutting taxes $600 million. George Allen is the clear choice for a future of more jobs and less government.”

“As he said in the debate, George Allen can’t wait to compare his record with Tim Kaine’s record,” said Delegate John Crosgrove. “We have a choice between George Allen’s proven, pro-growth record that created 300,000 net new jobs in Virginia or Tim Kaine’s record of proposing billion-dollar tax increases while losing 100,000 Virginia jobs. Small businesses need George Allen’s record of leadership in working with people of both parties to advance our freedom and opportunity agenda.”

The National Rifle Association Endorses George Allen for U.S. Senate

Henrico, VA – Today, the National Rifle Association (NRA) endorsed George Allen for U.S. Senate, citing his stellar record of defending the Second Amendment and protecting our Constitutional right to bear arms. The NRA is America’s leading organization promoting gun safety education and the Second Amendment with more than 4 million current members nationwide.

“It’s a most significant honor to receive the important endorsement of the National Rifle Association (NRA), a great American organization with so many patriotic, active members throughout Virginia. The NRA supports law enforcement professionals, gun safety education and stands strong for our foundational Second Amendment rights. I have always been proud to support the natural rights of law-abiding citizens to protect their families and themselves. In the U.S. Senate I will remain committed to defending our rights enshrined in our Constitution,” said George Allen. “My friends in the sportsmen community who enjoy the natural beauty of Virginia’s fields, forests, streams and lakes can count on me to be a strong and steadfast advocate for their freedom to hunt and fish. And all Virginians have my commitment to stand up for their God-given rights. The way to reduce crime is to crack down on criminals, not disarm our law-abiding citizens.”

George Allen has been a leader for more than three decades in defending our Second Amendment rights, enacting truth-in-sentencing, and supporting victims, their families and law enforcement professionals. He has consistently earned an A or A+ rating from the National Rifle Association.

Republican George Allen will get the endorsement of the National Rifle Association in the GOP primary for Virginia’s open U.S. Senate seat, strengthening his position in the four-way nomination contest.

The NRA will formally announce the endorsement on Thursday, on the eve of the second pre-primary debate among the four Republican Senate candidates. The winner of the June 12 primary will face former Gov. Tim Kaine, the Democratic nominee, in the general election.

Allen, a former governor and U.S. senator, has had the NRA’s backing in prior runs for statewide office. This endorsement from the nation’s most recognized gun-rights organization could help Allen solidify support from conservative gun-owners and sportsmen in advance of next month’s primary.

Allen’s opponents for the GOP nomination are state Del. Bob Marshall of Prince William County, Chesapeake minister E.W. Jackson, and state Tea Party leader Jamie Radtke of Chesterfield County.

Allen today picked up the endorsement of the American Conservative Union.

The NRA cites Allen’s pro-gun record as a senator and governor in its endorsement announcement. Among other things, the NRA notes that Allen co-sponsored and supported legislation that prevents firearms manufacturers and dealers from being sued for crimes committed with their products, and sponsored a bill that would have required states to recognize each other’s concealed carry permits.

Senate hopeful George Allen received a coveted endorsement from conservative grassroots organization American Conservative Union today, according to a press release from the organization.

The ACU cites Allen’s record of conservative leadership for fiscal responsibility, government transparency and accountability, and pro-life policies, as reasons for their endorsement.

“It’s an honor to receive the important endorsement of the American Conservative Union, the leading voice of America’s conservative principles,” said George Allen.

“I’m proud to stand for proven, conservative solutions that hold government accountable, reduce taxes and burdensome regulations on families and job-creating businesses, unleash our American energy resources, and free our economy to grow and create jobs.
“This election will determine whether future generations will have the same opportunities to achieve the American Dream as we had growing up. I believe that our country’s foundational principles of freedom, personal responsibility and opportunity for all will reinvigorate the entrepreneurial spirit of our country with pro- job growth competitive economic, productive energy and empowering education policies. Let’s join together to send a positive message to the world that ‘America is Open for Business Again.’”
