Republican Senate candidate George Allen was up early Saturday morning sharing his campaign goals with GOP voters in Albemarle County. Party members packed into the Double Tree Hotel for the party’s monthly breakfast.

Allen says he plans to focus his campaign on creating more jobs, especially for students right out of college. And he’s calling for congress to pass laws so Americans can have more affordable oil and energy.

“The attitude we need to have now is we need to be sending a message to the world that America is open for business again – on these economic, energy and other matters,” said Allen.

The candidate took questions from the crowd and party leaders encouraged members to get involved in the Senate campaign. Allen is the party’s front-runner to face Democratic former Governor Tim Kaine.

Veterans Breakfast in Virginia Beach

Started the day off with a breakfast with Virginia Beach veterans at Sunrise Café.

The preeminent responsibility of the federal government is national defense.

We owe it to those brave men and women providing our troops with the best training and most technologically advanced armaments and equipment.  And we must never break our sacred promises to our service men and women and their families who have given so much to preserve the freedom we cherish.

Our Veterans should know that America will stand with them always and that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.

Danville Register and Bee: Allen touts job growth plan in Danville

Developing the nation’s energy resources is a key component of U.S. Senate hopeful George Allen’s plan to grow jobs in Virginia and the country.

On Wednesday, the former Virginia governor sat down with the Danville Register & Bee to discuss his “Blueprint for America’s Comeback,” which outlines goals and ideas Allen believes would help Virginia’s competitiveness and job growth. The Republican front-runner and Democrat Tim Kaine, a former governor, are vying for retiring U.S. Sen. Jim Webb’s seat in next year’s election.

While Allen’s blueprint encourages increasing domestic energy production, he hasn’t taken a stance on uranium mining in Virginia, and said he is waiting to read the National Academy of Sciences uranium report due soon. While it’s up to the General Assembly to decide whether to lift the state’s 30-year moratorium, he advises state lawmakers to analyze the NAS report carefully as they need to make a “serious monumental decision.”

While jobs are important, so is public health and safety, he said.

Allen’s blueprint includes allowing resource exploration off Virginia’s coast, shale natural gas and coal-bed methane development, improving clean coal technology, recycling spent nuclear fuel and energy efficiency. Developing energy resources could create thousands of jobs while providing revenue for the federal government and more affordable energy for Americans, he said.

Former Sen. George Allen announced the endorsements of 10 newly elected Members of the Virginia General Assembly, for whom Allen logged countless miles on the campaign trail.

Endorsing Allen were nine state Delegates from around Virginia, as well as state Sen.-elect Bryce Reeves, who won his Fredericksburg-area seat earlier this month by less than a point.

“As our Senator, George Allen will continue his legacy of fighting for lower taxes, smaller government, and traditional family values,” Reeves said in a statement.

The endorsement announcement comes less than a week after the Allen campaign publicized a list of 100 tea party activists in the state who are also backing his candidacy, and as Allen looks to coalesce his support for the GOP Senate primary.

“Governor Allen’s belief in Tea Party principles is evident in his desire to cut government spending and bring a greater degree of accountability to Washington,” Coby Dillard, co-founder of the Hampton Roads Tea Party, said in a statement.

Allen, who is likely to face former Gov. Tim Kaine (D) in the general, must first get past his primary foes: tea party leader Jamie Radtke, minister E.W. Jackson, TV production company owner Tim Donner and
attorney David McCormick.

Dynamic Aviation Employee Town Hall & Tour

Today I headed over to Dynamic Aviation in Bridgewater, VA, a great company that is the leading provider of innovative aviation solutions for government and commercial organizations worldwide, with more than 150 aircraft and a seventy-five-year legacy of aviation excellence. Dynamic Aviation was founded by Chris Stoltzfus almost 75 years ago and has a long and proud history of success, characterized by our entrepreneurial spirit and our core values of unity, enthusiasm, proactive urgency, constant innovation, and safety.  His son Karl Stoltzfus, now the Chairman of Dynamic Aviation, introduced me with a great quote from my father, “winning is the science of total preparation,” which he felt applied perfectly to the culture that they have worked hard to foster at Dynamic Aviation.

I addressed and took questions from more than 200 highly skilled, innovative working men and women who help protect our freedom with exceptional technologies and innovative aviation solutions for our armed services, especially those in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Airborne Data Acquisition, Fire Management, Aerial Application, and Sterile Insect Technique.  Karl then took us around for a fascinating tour of their facility and talked about the culture of quality that they’ve created in Bridgewater.  It was inspiring to see how Dynamic Aviation is tapping into the knowledge, creativity and ingenuity of Virginia’s skilled workforce in the Valley.

Heartfelt Condolences for the Heroes Who Died Tragically Today in Afghanistan

Susan and I offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families, friends, sons and daughters of the heroes who died tragically today in Afghanistan.  These men and women gave their lives for our country and we owe them gratitude and thanks for their tremendous bravery and selfless commitment in these times of war.  In defending our freedom, American soldiers represent the spirit and ideals on which our nation was founded.  Virginia’s military families are some of the finest and strongest people Susan and I have had the great privilege of knowing, and their resolve and support will overcome this horrible tragedy. – Susan and George Allen

The George Allen Record – Welfare Reform – July 1, 1995

On July 1, 1995, Virginia began the implementation of George Allen’s sweeping welfare reform initiative, built on the twin pillars of work and individual responsibility.  Enacted more than a year ahead of the federal reform, Virginia’s welfare overhaul (the Virginia Independence Program and Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare, VIP/VIEW) became a national model for principled pro-family, pro-work, pro-individual-responsibility reform.

Commenting on the launch of Virginia’s welfare reform program, Allen stated, “For centuries, both the ideas and activities of independence and liberty were born here in Virginia. It is fitting that the Virginia Independence Program, which we designed to break the debilitating trap of dependency in our current failed welfare system, would become law and be approved at the same time that we commemorate Independence Day.”

Among its groundbreaking provisions, Virginia’s welfare reform law required recipients to work in exchange for benefits; put a time limit on benefits received; eliminated increases in State financial assistance for those having more children while on welfare; created tough paternity identification requirements; and required young mothers—minors—who had children while on welfare to live at home and to remain in school.  With a program focused on helping recipients lead independent, self-reliant lives, Virginia’s welfare rolls fell dramatically and today are 47% lower than they were in 1995.  The more efficient and effective program saved Virginia taxpayers over $57 million in the first two years alone.

George Allen believes States can produce similar results if given the flexibility to reform other federal programs, including Medicaid and food stamps.
