3 Years Without Budget – No accountability continues in Washington

Today is the third anniversary of the U.S. Senate failing to produce a budget. Passing a budget is one of Congress’ most basic and fundamental responsibilities. Yet the Senate Democrat Majority has failed the American people now three years in a row.

Without a blueprint for fiscal discipline, this unchecked spending has produced annual trillion dollar deficits, added trillions to the national debt and our country’s creditworthiness has been downgraded for the first time in history. To rein in this reckless spending we need comprehensive, enforceable budget reforms including a Constitutional amendment requiring a Balanced Budget with taxpayer protections as well as presidential line-item veto authority and a “paycheck penalty” that would withhold Members’ salaries when they don’t pass a budget/appropriations on time.

Families,  businesses, localities and States live and operate within budget constraints, and it is long past time for the federal government to do the same.  With the support of the people of Virginia, I aim to reform this disgraceful lack of accountable fiscal discipline in the U.S. Senate.
