Roanoke Times: Poindexter and Allen campaign at Westlake businesses and on Scruggs Road
A-Team: Yesterday George Allen visited the Smith Mountain Lake area with Delegate Charles Poindexter to talk with and listen to small business owners about today’s tough economy and how counterproductive government regulations and high energy prices were having a harmful impact on their businesses. One of the biggest local issues discussed was the especially burdensome, expensive and retroactive Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations on docks. Bruce Shelton, general manager at Capps Home Building Center, said that construction permits were down 30% from even last year.

Republican candidates for the General Assembly are getting plenty of help campaigning this week. Gov. Bob McDonnell is in town tonight for a Ralph Smith fundraiser, and Congressmen Morgan Griffith and Robert Hurt will campaign tomorrow for Bill Stanley.
This afternoon, former Gov., former U.S. Sen. and Republican U.S. Senate candidate George Allen swung by 4-year incumbent Del. Charles Poindexter’s Westlake office to campaign around Smith Mountain Lake this afternoon.
They visited Smith Mountain Building Supply and Capps Home Building Center to talk to store employees about the effects of a slow economy on their businesses. Both politicians asked whether government regulations and energy costs had hurt their bottom line.
Capps General Manager Bruce Shelton said that new construction has slowed — with new construction permits down 30 percent even from last year. Most of the contractors using his store are doing repair and renovation work, he said.

Statement on the Death of Muammar Gaddafi
This is a happy day for the people of Libya who want to create a free and just society, Americans share their joy. The world is a better off without Gaddafi and his regime, but as the Libyan people rebuild their nation, it is essential that they construct a new government built upon the four pillars of a free and just society; the freedom of religion, the freedom of expression for men and women, private ownership of property and the fair administration of the rule of law. We must encourage the Libyan people to form their country with these four pillars firmly in its foundation.

Campaign in Smith Mountain Lake with Delegate Charles Poindexter
After that we drove to Smith Mountain Lake to meet Delegate Charles Poindexter and tour more local businesses, stopping at Homestead Creamery on the way to pick up some strawberry milk.
We ended our day with a visit to Moosie’s Restaurant and Bar to talk with the patrons about the economy and what Washington needs to learn from Virginia, before stopping in at the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce, where we met the executive director Vicki and Annette, a friend of “Heavens to” Betsy Beamer!
Main Street Tour with Senator Bill Stanley
Met Danny Heiss today, the owner of The Daily Grind coffee shop – a family owned and operated small business that promotes art and music in the community.
We then walked over to Classic Consignments (coming soon) and met the owner Kim, who decided instead of relocating to North Carolina, she wanted to stay in Martinsville and pursue her dream.
We also stoped at New College Institute science building, great example of the kind of projects Bill Stanley advocates for in the community.
Dutch Treat Lunch with Senator Bill Stanley
There was a great crowd at Hugo’s Restaurant in Martinsville supporting Bill Stanley, someone who has always been a strong voice for the people of Southside with the new ideas we need in Richmond!
