Chairman Kaine: Sound Economic Management?!?!
Henrico, VA – Just days after he announced his support for President Obama’s $1.5 trillion tax hike – which includes another nearly $450 billion stimulus package, the Kaine campaign attempted to tout Chairman Kaine’s record as an example of “fiscal responsibility” and “sound economic management” – a record that includes unemployment above 9%, massive new debt and what could be the largest proposed tax hike ever in American history.
Chairman Kaine may think $1.5 trillion in higher taxes and a new $450 billion stimulus package is “fiscally responsible,” but the Virginia families and businesses that will be forced to foot the bill see it for what it is: another job-crushing Washington spending spree that will grow government, not the private sector.
The truth is Chairman Kaine’s policies are the same policies we’ve seen in Washington since President Obama was elected. And they’re the same failed policies that Virginia families and businesses can’t afford more of. The fact that Chairman Kaine thinks Washington has demonstrated sound economic management, shows just how out-of-touch he’s become. This isn’t surprising coming from the same person who spent nearly three years trying to convince Americans that the first $800 billion failed stimulus was working and our economy was on the right track.
As Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Tim Kaine Supported …
During his time at the DNC, Americans lost over 2.8 million jobs, unemployment stayed above 8% and record-setting, annual trillion dollar deficits became the norm. And when Kaine was Governor, he pushed for $4 billion in tax hikes, even as Virginia lost over 100,000 jobs. He cut higher education, shut-down 19 rest stops while sitting on hundreds of millions of unspent funds, and repeatedly dipped into the State’s Rainy Day Fund to meet budget shortfalls, withdrawing over $1 billion.
“It’s ironic that Chairman Kaine would want to tout ‘fiscal responsibility’ just days after standing shoulder to shoulder with President Obama to support a new $450 billion stimulus package as well as the $1.5 trillion tax hike that will destroy jobs and hurt Virginia families and businesses,” said Bill Riggs, Allen campaign spokesman. “There’s nothing fiscally responsible about standing with your liberal Washington allies to support their latest stimulus package and the same job-crushing tax hikes that this Administration has been pushing from day one. It’s clear that Mr. Kaine wants to be Senator to continue the same failed policies he championed at the Democratic National Committee, George Allen will be Senator for the voices and values of Virginia.”
Chairman Kaine – The REAL Record
As Chairman of the Democratic National Committee…
He was a vocal advocate of the failed $800 billion jobless stimulus
Championed President Obama’s $1.5 trillion government takeover of healthcare
Advocated for a big-government agenda that has made trillion dollar deficits the norm – including a record-setting projected $1.65 trillion this year alone
Chairman Kaine Called Obama’s Budget A “Blueprint For Success.” “In his State of the Union address, President Obama called on Congress to join him in two major efforts designed to help America win the future: making the tough choices and budget cuts required to reduce America’s deficit and restore fiscal stability while also making bold investments in education, innovation, infrastructure and other areas critical to economic growth. President Obama’s 2012 budget proposal is a blueprint for success in both those efforts.” (Democrat National Committee, 2/14/11)
As Governor of Virginia …

Janet Clarke is running a super campaign in Loudoun’s Blue Ridge District and has the support of Middleburg’s Mayor Betsy Davis. She has a great story and a public servant’s heart which allows her to have compassion for those in need while also understanding the business issues of the county.
The NLRB’s baseless lawsuit against Boeing is an assault on the freedom of movement of every American & undermines the competitive advantage of all Right-to-Work States, including Virginia. The NLRB has no justifiable reason to impede a company from hiring employees & operating in a Right-to-Work State. The Senate should pass this legislation quickly to prevent this from happening in the future & protect Virginia’s Right-to-Work law.
Senate Targets NLRB in spending bill
Politico

Building on last week’s House vote, Republicans are now targeting the National Labor Relations Board budget in the Senate, hoping to win over two Democrats and attach a rider barring the agency from pursuing any order threatening Boeing’s new non-union 787 production line in South Carolina.
Given the stakes and narrow 16-14 Democratic majority in the Senate Appropriations Committee, labor is clearly anxious and mounted a last push Tuesday evening to secure its support before the scheduled committee meeting Wednesday.
Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), a member of the panel, told POLITICO that he is now “leaning toward” the GOP amendment but had yet to make a firm commitment. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), a second member and often a swing vote for Republicans, insisted he had no firm opinion on the issue. “It is a case of new impressions,” Nelson said.
As drafted by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), the amendment is clearly aimed at the Boeing case but written in such a generic fashion that it would impact the NLRB’s powers in other instances when employers are shown to have moved work from one facility to another to retaliate again workers for lawful union activities.
Boeing says now that it built the new facility in South Carolina for unrelated cost reasons, but the Chicago-based company is haunted by past public comments by its executives expressing concern over strikes and walkouts by unionized machinists working in the Seattle area. The record is such that the NLRB’s counsel found that Boeing’s decision to locate in South Carolina –a right-to-work state—constituted illegal retaliation against its union workers, and with 1,100 jobs at stake, the issue has become a cause célèbre, especially in the Southeast, against the labor board.

As I’ve been out meeting with Virginians over the last few weeks, I’ve been learning more and more about just how many families and individuals are impacted by Lyme Disease. Most Virginians are unaware of how serious and more prevalent this disease is in Virginia than we have thought. One of the key leaders in fighting to raise awareness and prevention of Lyme Disease is Congressman Frank Wolf, who introduced legislation this summer for better detection and treatment, especially in the disease’s early stages. I commend and support Congressman Wolf’s legislation and his efforts to inform Virginians about the dangers of this disease and improve the lives of those who are already affected. Virginia is fortunate to have a Congressman like Frank Wolf in Washington who cares deeply about the health and safety of every community faced with this growing epidemic.
