Delegate Tag Greason Fundraiser

It was really a great pleasure to introduce Del. Tag Greason last night as ‘the No. 1 draft pick, the light of Loudoun County’ as he kicked off his re-election campaign. There were many good friends and new people involved in what I call the ‘Tag Team’ effort.

The answer to America’s energy needs is right here, Mr. President

By George Allen
The Washington Examiner
April 26, 2011

In answering a college student’s question about high gas prices last week at Northern Virginia Community College, President Obama told Americans he believes the only real way to reduce our energy costs is to spend money on research and development of clean-energy technology.

Well guess what, Mr. President, America is blessed with the most plentiful energy resources in the world – right here under our land and water. If we are serious about saving family’s money and reducing dependence of foreign oil, what we ought unleash and utilize our resources cleanly and creatively for American jobs, quality of life, balance of trade and national security.

Sadly, the president and his liberal allies in Washington seem more concerned about tilting at intermittent, expensive windmills and throwing up bureaucratic roadblocks to using our American resources than the crippling impact of high energy costs on Virginians and Americans already struggling to keep afloat in a slow economy. These counterproductive policies are taking America down a path that is deeply flawed, unrealistic, harmful, and downright dangerous.

By almost every measurable indicator, the Obama Administration has launched a full-scale assault on conventional fuels – whether it is the EPA advancing the “train wreck” of draconian regulations affecting all facets of the energy that powers our lives and livelihoods, the Interior Department’s stalling effort to cut off access to Gulf of Mexico oil by withholding drilling permits, the substantial increase in bureaucratic red tape that has diminished productive activity, or the president’s termination of Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste repository.

Such actions have led companies to question building of new coal and nuclear plants. Meanwhile, wind and solar power technologies remain costly and years away – if ever – from widespread use, despite the tens of billions the U.S. Department of Energy has spent on renewable energy technologies since 1978, when Jimmy Carter was in the White House. All of which foreshadows a future of higher energy costs for American families and businesses, and increased – not decreased – dependency on foreign oil.

The George Allen Record – Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act – April 26, 2001

In an effort to keep the heavy hand of government from diminishing the bright promise of opportunity of the Internet, on April 26, 2001, George Allen introduced the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act, extending the ban on taxation of Internet access he first promoted as Governor.

“In my view, the Internet has the most profound liberating potential since Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press, which allowed the mass distribution of ideas, thoughts and information,” said Allen.  “This legislation is a step forward to keeping the Internet free of unfair, discriminatory taxation policies that would impede its future growth as a source of commerce, education and information.”

As Senator, George Allen succeeded twice in extending the moratorium on Internet access taxes with Public Law 107-75 and 108-435. Allen’s bipartisan legislation garnered support from the Information Technology Association of America, Citizens for a Sound Economy, and Americans for Tax Reform for protecting the freedoms and economic opportunity that the Internet creates for the growing global economy. Allen’s determined efforts have helped keep the Internet a thriving hub for commerce with the moratorium he fought so hard to impose now in place through 2014.

George Allen Statement on the Supreme Court Declining to Expedite Virginia’s Health Care Challenge

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
April 25, 2011

Richmond, VA – George Allen today issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to reject expediting Virginia’s health care challenge:

“While not surprising, it is disappointing that the U.S. Supreme Court has declined to expedite the review of Virginia’s lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the federal health care monstrosity. This delay will cost taxpayers and businesses significant resources as they work to put themselves in compliance with a complex and overreaching government-run health care power grab. For the rights and prerogatives of Virginians it is my hope that the courts will work quickly to review this anti-jobs government mandate that exceeds the constitutional bounds of the federal government. Immediate action is needed to so we can replace this massive, expensive experiment with reforms that foster better access to affordable, personal and quality health care opportunities for families and small business owners.”
