“Ladies and gentleman … Patriots of the Valley … good afternoon, all!”
The familiar booming voice of former Gov. and U.S. Senator George Allen rang out in the private dining room of the Woodside Grill in Harrisonburg on Friday as 75 Republicans from the Sixth District gathered to fellowship and hear from the Governor.
The crowd included Sen. and Mrs. Mark Obenshain, Del. Matt Lohr, Ray Coughlin and Carrie Wilson of the Harrisonburg School Board, conservative activist Suzanne Curran of Shenandoah County, Barb Tillett of Augusta, David and Sherry Huffman, Ray Schneider who disseminates information to Harrisonburg-Rockingham and beyond, and Peggy and Gary Huffman of Augusta.
Also present was Myron Rhodes … the Republitarian blogger … who offered a very sincere invocation. I wasn’t one who gasped (read his six-line update … obviously, he’s not as wordy as I) but was a tad surprised. No offense. From what I’ve read, he is a man of faith … and was wearing a trademark baseball cap (apparently he wears them often).
George Allen was engaging and energetic, covering a gamut of issues including America’s increasing debt to China and other foreign countries, our need for energy independence and his work with the American Energy Freedom Center.
