Report from the Trail
Saturday, October 6th, 2007With the King of the Road Henry Doggett at the wheel I have been traveling through Southwest Virginia this weekend.
Very Good enthusiasm last evening in Christiansburg for our friend Del. Dave Nutter’s re-election. Dave is a solid, caring, good person who is a key leader for education, jobs and creative investment in Southwest Virginia. He’s a MVP ally for making sure Virginia is internationally competitive for research and innovation with skilled people. Many longtime friends and new friends there. Also, put in good words for great ally, Allan Burke’s re-election for Clerk of Court in Montgomery County, Lee Ann Teel for Commonwealth’s Attorney, as well as Charlie Bopp for Supervisor and Becky Cox for Treasurer in Pulaski County. There were right many folks from Pulaski County who came including Jean Evans and Dot and Don Sheffey. Heartwarming time.
At noon-2:00 pm today (Sat) speechifying, answering, and discussing at Town Hall meeting in old historic Grayson Coounty Courthouse in Independence. Supporting our troops, deaing properly with illegal immigration, education, lessons from football, and Presidential nominations were top issues. By far- most support for Fred Thompson. And one for Gov. Huckabee. Del. Bill Carrico is running a strong campaign and Jeff Evans, too were there meeting folks. Dawn Davis Cox is running smart and well-organized campaign for re-election as Commonwealth’s Attorney as is a top quality Sheriff Jerry Wilson. Susan Herrington has the credible experience to be the next Clerk of Court in Grayson County. Larry and Judy Brannock are fantastic, energetic leaders. The folks there from Carroll and Grayson Counties are ready to win.
Sentimentally, it was good to see a State Trooper Jerry Sowers who protected our family when serving as Governor. He came by to say hello and I got to see photos of his 3 year old son Caleb. Happy to also report that The Crossroads Institute for Innovation and Technology looks great. Glad to have helped create it with local and Wytheville Community College partnership and with Lowe’s generosity. It sure was good to see our Commander for the Mountain Empire Marty Hall .
On Route 58 to Patrick County and then to Martinsville for event for Don Merricks. Stopped by Darrell Worley’s W&W Produce. Got boxes of Patrick County apples, apple butter, honey with comb, and apple pie filling.
This grass roots support of “Citizens for Darrell Bowling for Sheriff” write-in campaign is truly wonderful. He lost a son serving us in Iraq.
On way to Martinsville. GfA.
