HERNDON, Va., March 21  /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Young America’s Foundation announces that recent Governor and U.S. Senator George Allen has joined the Foundation’s team as its Reagan Ranch Presidential Scholar and accepted a position on the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors.

“It’s an honor to welcome Governor George Allen as the Reagan Ranch Presidential Scholar.  Throughout his long and distinguished time in public service, he has sparked great interest among students in George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. We are eager for him to share Ronald Reagan’s freedom philosophy with audiences,” said Ron Robinson, president of Young America’s Foundation.  “His stalwart defense of individual freedom, free markets, and limited government makes him an excellent addition to the Young America’s Foundation leadership team.”

As the Reagan Ranch Presidential Scholar, the Virginia governor and U.S. senator will become a regular addition to the Foundation’s campus lecture program. He will join Margaret Thatcher, Ed Meese, William F. Buckley Jr., and Michael Reagan, all of whom have addressed Foundation audiences.  In his role, he’ll deliver remarks to young audiences across the country.  He will also represent the Foundation during events that celebrate the life and lasting accomplishments of Ronald Reagan.

“We’re happy to welcome George Allen into our ranks.  His energy and enthusiasm for Ronald Reagan’s ideas will inspire a new generation of young people,” said 75th U.S. Attorney General and Co-Chairman of the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors Edwin Meese III.

“I am honored and excited by this tremendous, invigorating opportunity to advance the cause of freedom.  Little did I know that in 1976, when Ronald Reagan asked me to be his leader for young Virginians, his ideals and forward thinking would inspire me to enter the realm of public life,” stated George Allen.  “I will carry forth Ronald Reagan’s inspiring, optimistic message of liberty while responsibly helping to preserve the historic and special Rancho del Cielo for generations to come.  I’m enthusiastically looking forward to engaging Americans in a dialogue about ideas to improve opportunities in our country.”

George Allen served the Commonwealth of Virginia for more than 20 years: as governor, as a U.S. representative and senator, and as a delegate holding Thomas Jefferson’s seat in the Virginia General Assembly.  As governor, Allen led sweeping reform that made Virginia a national model in economic development, public safety, education standard accountability, welfare reform, and creative government.  He carried those same principles and experiences to the U.S. Senate where he continued to advocate policies to make America a more competitive leader in innovation and technology.
“As governor and then in the U.S. Senate, George Allen stood strong for freedom and the ideals and philosophy of President Reagan.  It’s an honor to have him aboard, and we look forward to his commitment to introduce Ronald Reagan’s leadership to the next generation of Americans,” said Frank Donatelli, chairman of the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors and special assistant to President Reagan.

As the principal outreach organization of the Conservative Movement for 37 years, Young America’s Foundation introduces thousands of young people to conservative ideas through national conferences, campus lectures and activism programs, internships, and seminars at the Reagan Ranch Center. Young America’s Foundation preserves the Reagan Ranch as a premier presidential property and living tribute to Ronald Reagan’s life and ideas.
